Photoshop - Raindrops

The reason we've included this much sought-after effect is that the background is critical for it to work. For example, it won't work on a plain background, or clouds, but seems to work very well on a timber background.

So, if you,ve completed (and saved!) the Wooden Fence tutorial or you need to right-click and copy the image into Photoshop, here goes.

With the image in Photoshop,create a new layer at the top of the stack and select a 19 pixel hard-edged brush and hit D to return the Foreground/Background Colors to Black/White.

Write some text with some downward squiggles and some dots for individual "drops".

Reduce the Fill of this layer to 3%. This will make the "lettering" almost disappear, but don't worry.

And that's it! Seriously, we need to apply four Layer Styles, so hit the icon at the bottom of the layers palette and start with Drop Shadow. (The next two images are "rollovers" containing two layer styles each - move your cursor over the images to see both styles). The important bits are outlined in red, and in all cases "Global Light" is unchecked and set at 90°
