Photoshop 3D SPHERE
Open a new document in Photoshop, say 300px x 300px
Create a new layer
With the Elliptical Marquee Tool (and with Shift pressed down to get a perfect circle), draw a circle in the middle of the canvas
Make the Foreground Color white and the background color any color you want (here we've used a medium blue)
Choose the Gradient Tool from the toolbar and, making sure you have the "Radial Gradient" option selected (circled in red to right) drag a selection roughly like the one in the illustration.
You should have a result like the one to the right. Now you can deselect (Ctrl + D)
Now go to the layers palette, click on the bottom layer - (Layer 1) and click on the "New Layer" icon to get a new layer (Layer 3). This will be a shadow. Re-select the Elliptical Marquee Tool and draw a "shadow" as in the final example to the right. Note: Because the Shadow is on its own layer, you can move it to it's final position with the Move Tool. Finally, making sure you are on the Shadow layer, go to Filter...Blur...Gaussian Blur to make the shadow more realistic.
